  • Anovulation and/or absent periods

How can fertility massage help me?

Fertility Massage Therapy™ focuses on improving circulation to the abdominal and reproductive areas. The digestive system plays a vital role in the balance of hormones and maintaining a healthy immune system, working the upper and lower abdominal allows us to realign muscles, unblock debris, and soften scar tissue that may be hindering the body's balance.

When working over the reproductive organs, we increase blood flow and nutrients directly to the uterus and ovaries, loosening tight ligaments and softening scar tissue so these organs can work more efficiently.

We also work the lumbar and sacral region of the back, which share neural pathways and muscles with the digestive and reproductive organs.

Massaging these three areas, essentially, lets your organs and muscles "breathe" by re-aligning, creating space to sit comfortably and allowing them to relax and work as intended.

  • Helps reposition a tilted uterus

  • Promotes hormonal balance

  • Helps to break up scar tissue

  • Brings fresh blood and oxygen to the uterus

  • Improves flow and uptake of nutrients to vital organs

  • Helps reduce stress & stress hormones

  • Improves immune system

  • Increases circulation to the uterus & cervix

  • Encourages the liver to get rid of excess hormones

  • Promotes hormonal balance by strengthing the hormonal feedback loop

  • Helps the body get rid of old stagnant blood & tissues

  • Removes harden debris in the gut

Frequently asked questions

When is it NOT safe to have fertility massage?

There are few instances where fertility massage cannot be carried out. Any contraindications are assessed on a case-by-case basis. For example, if you have a coil fitted, we would just avoid the womb area but would still be able to work on the upper & lower abdomen, gluteal, lumbar and sacral regions.

  • If you are already pregnant (in which case try pregnancy massage!)
  • 3 days prior to and during heavy bleeding (womb can be avoided)
  • Coil / IUD fitted (womb can be avoided)
  • Within 6 weeks or minor surgery
  • Within 1 year of major surgery (or with approval from GP)
  • Active infection of STD
  • Avoid womb area and deep sacral massage post ovulation if you are actively trying to conceive or have had implantation
What happens at my appointment?

Before your appointment

You will be sent a consultation form to complete. Please send this at least 2 days ahead of time so I can have a chance to read and digest it

Consultation

When you arrive, we will discuss your fertility journey so far, medical history and any emotional aspects. From this we’ll agree a treatment plan, and of course you will receive a full fertility massage treatment

Your treatment

Fertility massage uses a range of techniques including traditional massage strokes, pulsing, acupressure, trigger point therapy and rebozo. We always start with a lumbar, sacral and gluteal massage (back and top of buttocks). This will allow you time to relax since we are most comfortable with back massages.

Time is spent on these regions of the back because they are all connected to the reproductive and digestive organs. By working these areas we improve circulation, loosen tight muscles, ligaments and scar tissue, and help realign organs so they can work more efficiently.

When massaging your abdomen, you will be receiving touch from your pubic bone to your ribcage. If you are menstruating or post-ovulation / post-implantation, we will avoid the womb area.

During this part of the treatment, we focus on the upper and lower abdomen, and womb (depending on cycle), in order to increase circulation to the reproductive organs and digestive tract. Digestion plays a hugely important role in fertility and hormone balance; working this area also allows us to realign muscles, unblock debris, and soften scar tissue that may be hindering the body’s homeostasis.

After your treatment

You will be emailed with self-care advice and personalised recommendations.

Can I have fertility massage anytime during my cycle?

Yes. Your treatment is personalised to your needs and where you are in your monthly cycle. If you are trying to conceive, the best time to receive fertility massage is after your period up until ovulation (usually from about day 4 to day 16).

During menstruation

You can still receive Fertility Massage during your period, however the womb is avoided. The focus will be on the lumbar/sacral, digestive, head and neck.

Pre-ovulation & ovulation

Once you’ve finished your period, your ovaries are working overtime to produce follicles, in the lead up to ovulation. All three areas are massaged; lower back (sacrum), digestive and womb, to increase circulation to your whole abdominal area, and boost the delivery of nutrients, oxygen and hormonal flow to your womb and ovaries.

Post ovulation (or post implantation, if assisted)

Once you’ve finished your period, your ovaries are working overtime to produce follicles, in the lead up to ovulation. All three areas are massaged; lower back (sacrum), digestive and womb, to increase circulation to your whole abdominal area, and boost the delivery of nutrients, oxygen and hormonal flow to your womb and ovaries.

Can I have fertility massage if I'm having fertility treatment?

Yes, absolutely. Fertility massage is an excellent complement to assisted reproduction techniques.

Fertility massage is safe to carry out before, during and after IVF, ICSI & IUI cycles, and can improve egg health and prepare the womb for fertilisation. Your treatment plan will be adapted depending on what stage you are at in your fertility cycle.

As with any complementary therapy, you should always consult your GP or Health Care Professional prior to any treatment if you are trying to conceive, or think you may be pregnant.

I have digestive issues, not fertility, what can I expect?

For digestive issues, we work all the same areas, apart from the uterus. We do still work on the lower abdomen to make sure we are treating the large intestine

What will it feel like having my tummy massaged?

A lot of people might wince at the thought of having their tummy massaged, but the reality couldn't be farther from the truth. We often neglect and hide away our tummies, so giving this area some much needed love actually feels pretty amazing! You shouldn't feel pain at any point during your treatment, and we will work together to determine what is comfortable for you.

Strong emotions can be a common response to the treatment. We can hold a lot of pent up emotion in our tummies and womb, either from trauma or day-to-day stress. Fertility massage aims to help us reconnect with our bodies and release these emotions, allowing our body and mind to work as one.

How many sessions will I need?

This is obviously completely dependant on individual circumstances and the severity of symptoms.

I have known some women to only need one session to correct an issue, while others may need several. I usually suggest sticking with it for at least 3 sessions to allow for noticeable results and improvements.

How quickly you see improvements can also depend on your lifestyle and self-care regime. A woman with a healthy lifestyle, who practices the self-care advice given between visits, is likely to see quicker results.

Some symptoms can also be caused by psychological stress or trauma, which can take longer to overcome if they are deep seeded.

I'm having complementary therapy elsewhere, is that ok?

Absolutely! I have a lot of clients who have reflexology and acupuncture at the same time as fertility massage.  We will have the opportunity to discuss this in your consultation.

Can fertility massage benefit men?

I currently only work with men with digestive issues, but fertility massage can definitely help men, and increase circulation to the testis and improve sperm health.

As part of your self care, I will demonstrate how to perform self-massage at home, which you and your partner can use.

How will I feel after my treatment?

You may experience a slight tenderness in the days after your massage, this is a normal reaction to massage and is your body adjusting to the releasing of the ligaments, increased freedom of movement within our abdominal region.

You may also experience increased bowel motions, which is a positive reaction.

If you experience any discomfort after 3 days, please seek advice from your GP.
